Jennifer Brown

Two-time winner of the Erma Bombeck Global Humor Award (2005 & 2006), Jennifer Brown’s weekly humor column appeared in The Kansas City Star for over four years, until she gave it up to be a full-time young adult novelist.Jennifer’s debut novel, HATE LIST (Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, 2009), received starred reviews from Publisher’s Weekly, Kirkus, and VOYA, was selected as an ALA Best Book for Young Adults, a VOYA "Perfect Ten," a School Library Journal Best Book of the Year, and a selection nomination on the 2013 NPR List of Best All-Time YA Books.

Film rights were sold to Disney in 2014.  Her next four young adult novels published by Little, Brown received similar awards and accolades (including another ALA Best Book for Young Adults and another VOYA “Perfect Ten”), and she’s made both the annual YALSA Best Fiction for Young Adults list and the Texas Library Association’s Taysha’s high school reading list multiple times.

Jennifer also write middle-grade fiction, and her debut novel, LIFE ON MARS (Bloomsbury), was released in 2014.  The book was selected by Scholastic to appear in their Fall 2014 School Book Clubs and Fairs.In 2013, Jennifer returned to writing her first love—women’s fiction.

THE SISTER SEASON (Penguin/NAL) was released under the penname of Jennifer Scott, becoming a national bestseller. Jennifer writes and lives in the Kansas City, Missouri area, with her husband and three children.
